Fragile Roof Systems

The temporary trellis mat system

to prevent falls through fragile roofs

Maintenance work on fragile roofs - such as asbestos sheet roofs - has dangers because an operative can trip or fall onto roofing sheet (or a roof window) which may then collapse. The resulting fall can be many metres - often resulting in serious or tragic consequences.

The left photograph shows mats being spread out each side of a valley where maintenance work is to take place.  The mats overlap slightly and interlock together. This trellis mat system from Oxford Safety is easy to install, quick to move to suit the work and simple to remove when the job is complete.

The right photograph shows a large area of roof safeguarded; it can be seen that under each mat are aluminium of spars that lie across the roof, above the purlins. This means that the weight of any falling operative is transferred onto the steel frame of the roof, thus preventing any fall through the fragile roof sheeting.
